ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Burrishoole Abbey or ruined Dominican friary was founded by Sir Richard De Burgo in 1469. Sir Richard resigned his Lordship and lived there for the last years of his life. The Abbey was attacked a number of times by soldiers and has the grave of Father Manus Sweeney. Father Sweeney was hanged in Newport because he joined in the rebellion of 1798. The grave is surrounded by distinctive 1798 pike heads. It is free to enter.

Rockfleet Castle also known as Carrickahowley Castle was one of many castles belonging to Grace O Malley (Granuaile) along the shores of Clew Bay. Some years ago the castle was restored by its American owner. It has four floors and the top floor has a fireplace.

St Brendan’s holy well and Killeen cemetery is along the shore at Roskeen South.
