The Great Western Greenway is Ireland’s longest dedicated off-road walking and cycling route and a must do activity along the Wild Atlantic Way. The Greenway route is a total distance of 44km sextends across the Eastern and Northern stretches of Clew Bay in County Mayo. Almost all of the great western way is traffic free (there are a couple of road crossings) and the route offers stunning scenery as it leads you from Westport to Newport, Mulranny and Achill Island.

Many begin at the heart of the greenway in the seaside town of Westport, rent a bike or electric bike and cycle the Westport Greenway through the picturesque towns and villages of Newport and Mullranny to the end of the cycle trail at Achill Sound. 

The Greenways history of being a railway line offers mild gradients suitable for young, old and those that that are a little unsure about cycling. Cycling the Greenway from Westport to Achill  provides travelers with magnificent backdrops of the Clew Bay, Clare Island, Crough Patrick and Nephin Beg Mountain landscapes.
